In June of 2010, the FAA announced that it would be making some changes in the conduct of FAA knowledge tests. [ You can read more about that announcement at http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2010/100623faa.html ] The most notable change would be an increase in the size of the question banks for knowledge tests. It was apparent at the time that a large change in a question bank's size (say doubling it) would probably cause a transition period that would be a bit painful. Think about it; for a 500-question bank, just doubling it would mean having to add 28 questions per month every month for two years. As painful as these changes may seem at first, please realize one thing: it's been our experience over the last 12 years of asking questions of the FAA testing experts in Oklahoma City that one overriding concern and objective has guided their work: enhancing safety.
Over 12 Years Providing Test Prep for Pilots
Unfortunately, some recent question bank changes led to testing applicants who'd used a variety of test prep courses doing poorly on the FOI exam (although test takers continue to perform well on other exams including ATP and FEX). As a result of the FOI tests, AOPA and NAFI wrote a letter to AFS-600 in Oklahoma City representing all of our concerns about these changes and their affects on these test takers. You have to empathize with these test applicants who, despite preparing diligently for their exams the same way they have for all of their previous exams (studying a test prep course), were confronted by a test constructed of questions they were unprepared for.

Shortly after the issue was raised following the failures on the FOI exam, on April 20th, the FAA hosted a vendor conference and went over the subject and their vision of future testing. You can read more about that meeting at either of the following links:

Since that meeting, another meeting was held in May to discuss the FAA's process for creating tests/test questions, and to look at specific results from FOI tests. Please read more about that at any of the following links:

Bottom Line Up Front: We've provided you lots of information below if you'd like to read more about the subject of FAA question bank changes; but the bottom line is that if you study with our software, you don't need to worry about the current turmoil and rapid pace of FAA test bank changes. We provide updates 24-hours a day, NOT only every 6 or 12 months; that way you don't get surprises on a test you take in May because you didn't have the changes that came out over the 5 previous months. Also, the message system built into our software allows us to broadcast notices to you rapidly so we can keep you from taking a test if you should really wait a day or two. As always, we are the only company who backs our FAA test prep with a No-Surprises Money-Back guarantee... so if we don't do our job professionally and you see a surprise question on your test, we don't get paid and you study for free.
